What poly did I see?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
yep... that is a regular p. delhezi.
they are fairly common poly. try looking around you local fish stores. somtimes its difficult to find them with nice stripes nowadays :( it seems that alot of them are stripeless or semi-stripless.

if you give up trying to find one locally you can always order from a vendor online. i got 2 from Toyin (rehobothaquatics). they are wild caught and have nice markings.

here is one that i have had for over 3 years now.
2 pics same delhezi.

from the pics.
the first you can see the upper jaw protruding.
second you can see the lower jaw protruding.
most ornates like to hide and are rarely seen.
as for active bichirs, most get only to about a foot or little more.
some are senegals,delhezi,palmas polli.
an exception for me is that my endlis are as active as my senegals and are more active than delhezi.

Whats the diff between Endli and Delhezi? They look the same to me? Is there a sertain one with a stronger pattern??

And Endli gets alot bigger and isnt as active. Sounds to me like a delhezi is the thing for you

Yeah I think so. The first Bichir that I seen and I liked :)
Just posted a trade for one of my VATF'S.
I think I'm just looking to have a few diff species in my tank, rather than couples. I think its a pretty good trade (atleast for the other person :))

i keep a del, polli and sens (albino and reg) all in the same tank with my gold wolves and its a pretty active tank. the del has easily become my favorite bichir. i bought him online from Toyin and his markings are excellent.

is it really that hard to tell the difference?
just look at the head.
honestly,i dont think trading an atf for a del is a good deal.
with the price of one atf you could buy quite a few bichirs.

I want to get a few diff species in my tank without over crowding and getting ready for a Ray :). I know the $ of a VATF is more than a Delhezi, but as long as I get my specks, then I'm good with letting someone else enjoy the awsome ATF. Thanks for the heads up Channarox, by the way I get a Motoro on Friday. The best starter for Rays (suppos). I'll keep him for about 1 yr then I'll get my scobina's or Histrix :headbang2

how big is your tank?
polys have no problem over crowding on the bottom.
the ray would be a nice addition.
never kept one.
but i'd be afraid of polys with a ray.
