What puffer for my 125.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
How about a MBU. I heard that they can be pretty docile with other fish. And how long before I would have to upgrade from a 220 if I get one when it is small.

if you went with a (modified) South/Central American theme you could go with a couple of SA Puffers: apparently they're pretty user-friendly, for a puffer... They do require hard/shelled foods as much or more than other puffers though, that or occasional dental surgery.

Honestly, you'd probably get a year or two out of it before you would need an upgrade, and by upgrade, personally speaking i would say you need at least an 800G+ tank for one, although a lot here will argue that a 400-500G will suffice :(

South American Puffers are known to be the most communal puffer, based on the fact they do best in groups of 3 or more... although as mentioned, they do require a lot more dentistry than other puffers, and supposedly even with hard shelled foods every meal, you will still probably need to trim there teeth about once every 6 months or so...

If it were me, I would put your other fish in the 220. Take your 125....set up a FOWLR tank...couple of reef octopus HOB skimmers and toss in a dalmation or other dog face type puffer.

^ I like that idea... if you don't mind going salt that is...

couple bags of salt, couple bags of aragonite, bout 50-75 lbs of LR and a skimmer. Yea it will cost a few C notes but I bet he will have a SW tank forever once he gets one rolling ^_~
