What pumps do you guys use for your sump?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would definately use Mag-Drive again.

Eheim, not so much.

I had an Iwaki pump that lasted for 3 years, was put up in a garage for one year, then failed to work when I tried to return it to service. Would not buy again for the price.

Can everyone please put their likes/dislikes about their pumps? Would you buy another? Instead of just listing brand names...

I don't know what are you looking for when shopping for a new pump, as for me 3 things; one is noise, second is power, how much produce gph, how much electricity uses and reliability. I have experience with several pumps up to the 1400gph, and on my experience once you past the 800gph, they become noisier.
My first pump was a quiet one 4000, i didn't like the pump because of the noise, i went for the name quiet but it was nothing not like that.
Second pump i got its a mag 7, also noisy to my ears, still have this pump, better then quiet one, to me anyway.
I also have poseidon 3 and 4, also known as velocity pumps, i really like these pumps, if eheim are know for been quiet, this pump its really dead silence, the only way you can tell its running, its by touching or looking at your return, two withdraws with these pumps; uses a bit more electricity and they heat up your tank.
Eheim great pumps, but not a lot flow if you are looking for over 900gph, I don't know about the compact ones.
Also have panworld same as blue line similar to iwaki, great pump lots power but very noisy specially over 800gph.
The last one i just got, its a tunze silente recirculation, also know as sicce, i really like this pump so far, good power for its size, quiet and friendly to power consumption, her its video.

If i would buy again, poseidon would be on my list, also panworld if its in the basement, and tunze for its overall that it comeswith this tiny pump
I know there is better pumps on the market, like red dragon, and others but price its a factor.

The compact 5000 has a great price. They are amazing, even at roughly 5' head, with very little loss but this is blown away by the noise. I have my 2 in separate cages made with 1" thick fine sponge to try and reduce the noise and I also have polystyrene sheets where the sump contact the stand. This makes it bearable but the new-jet 3000 is much better; good flow, good price, adjustable flow rate and very quiet. Even out of water using only the suckers for cushioning.

Laguna power-jet max Flo 9000, died today 5 months old- never abused. Very dissapointing, lucky- no harm done. Was thinkin of usin twin eheim compact 5000's but am now thinkin twice after seein wat people have to say bout em.

We use a submersible pump on our wet/dry filter. Ran a CA-6000 pump (1560 gph) on my ProClear Aquatics 400 wet/dry filter. It ran great for nearly 5 years. Discovered it had quit working on a Friday afternoon, and had to rush to our local feed store (very rural area) to purchase their largest Pondmaster pump (700 gph). It's actually doing an OK job, and until now, I had forgotten to purchase another pump online.

I am planning to use a Reeflo Barracuda Gold pump to return the water from my 400 gallon holding sump to the new main tank (when that gets set up down the road). Recently, I've been thinking of connecting my current wet/dry filter to the new sump on fish moving day, to eliminate having to cycle the big tank. It seems like all I'd have to do is throw another pump into the new sump and pump water to the old wet/dry filter and then back into the sump. I think I'll shop for a new submersible pump today....
