I'm really interested in rays, and I want to know what are some of the smaller species of rays under 20" and I'm a beginner ray keeper. I've been keeping fish for well over 25 years so not new to the hobby. Keeping rays has been a dream of mine for a long time and I'm prepared for the challenge

Hystrix and retics stay small. What size of tank do you have? Pics of setup?

I prefer hystrix over retics because I think they look stalkier then retics hahaha. Pics if tank and setup would be helpful, also is the 20" overall or 20" of disc? What is the biggest tank you have and can get? What do you plan on keeping with the ray?

Currently my 90 gal is up but I have a 180 that will be set up at a later time. I'm guessing in about 4-6 months. What's the growth rate of the hystrix

Oh and not sure what I'll keep with the ray, maybe a few discus and some clown loaches.

A 180 will need an upgrade here after a little while... Are you planning and willing to get an even larger tank with a larger floor print after that?

I have 2 hystrix in a 180 gallon, i hope it works out, but i have larger system if it wont. Depends on the rays, some stay smaller then others, some get bigger. Be prepared for the second thing(Bigger).

I have given this a lot of thought and done hours and hours of research, I've decided not to keep rays at this time. I'm super bummed out but I think its for the best. I like to consider myself a pretty good fish keeper and thanks to all of you who gave me really good advice. I just don't have the tank size I would need to keep rays. I realized this while watching some YouTube videos and so many people keep rays in undersized tanks and its just awful. I refuse to be one of them. So thanks again to all of you who helped me realize this
