what return pump to use with 1200gph overflow?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i have a super sized calcium reactor on my 30gal sps/lps tank. i keep the reactor at a ph of 6.7 with a controller. i only have to drip 60 drops per min to keep alk at 9dkh. the ph seems to be ok at that slow of a drip rate. 8.0-8.3 it seems to stay at consistantly.

but for this tank im not stocking a lot of corals, so a 2 part dosing should be easy.

I just went and bought a mag 18 myself. I cant pass up a deal like that, thanks for the heads up.

I dont like calcium reactors, because you will eventually need to dose lime water to counteract the pH drop that comes with the calcium reactor. Granted, thats only when you calcium reactor is putting out a lot of effluent to keep up with a heavily stocked lps or sps tank. I would rather do two part.

If you put the effluent into the skimmer it counteracts a lot of the ph drop because it oxygenates it right away. This is what I will be doing when I get some more corals and hook up my calc. reactor. I guess I will see what happens when I get to that point.

or u can use a 2nd reactor chamber.

Also what I am doing...

so which sump do u like?

I think they both look the same lol. They are basically the same dimensions, it is just whether or not you want the supplied light.

Honestly I think that for 400 dollars you could build yourself a sump and have 250 left over. The dimensions of that sump is about a 30 gallon. So buy a 30 gallon tank and some sheets of acrylic and silicone at the hardware store. Acryclic isn't had to cut at all, just score it repeatedly to cut it to the appropriate baffles. Sand the acrylic sheets and parts of the tank they will be fastened to with a coarse sandpaper and silicone them into place. Let dry 1 day and try it out. Boom sump!

decieded to go with trigger ruby 36 sump and asm g3 skimmer. all i will need is a fuge light.

not sure if i will use a gfo/carbon reactor or a bio-pellet reactor. its not recommended to use gfo with bio-pellets, so its 1 or the other.
