So I do have sand in my 125 gallon tank but it gets kicked up too easily and I am afraid it will eventually claug my filters. I have heard pool filter sand is a good heavier sand but nobody sells it in my area. Are there any other sands that are heavy that I can use besides pool filter sand?

Walmart, lowes, homedepot, nor the local garden store sells pool filter sand I have checked all of them several times. I am really looking for a different type of sand I can use. Maybe play sand?

You can get pool filter sand at leslies pool supply. The locations closest to DC are woodbridge VA, Vienna VA, and Kensington MD

You can get pool filter sand at Namco pool supplies in Maryland as well, they have multiple locations all over the area or pretty much any pool supply store would have it.

Does pfs make that much of a difference? I have the quikrete medium sand and HATE it it gets kicked up too easily and one of my AC 70's buzzes and carries on for 1/2 afterward.

See if you can find Lapis Lustre Monterey beach sand at a local concrete store. They come in many different grades and I use #12 which is heavy enough to not get stirred up.

Thanks guys but these places are pretty far from my house. I might use them as a last resort but I am not really willing to go that far for some sand.

Stay far away from play sand, silicon carbide is black and is available in different grits from a sandblasting shop.

sandblasting shop?

Well I have this sand from petco that's apperently for saltwater fish an d it is super fine and everytime the fish swim over it, it gets kicked up into a mini cloud that floats in the water. I have prevented filter clogs by putting small rocks where the filter intakes are to prevent the sand from moving so much but as the fish get bigger and dig more I feel that won't solve my problem.

I could try to find it...
