What school fish with a Jag?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
big rainbowfish are an option, but you have to take into account that some will at some point will probably be eaten/killed

Thing with Parachromis Spc. such as Jag and Dovii is that they are very predatory and might kill off your school little by little. In the past when I used SD's or Tinfoils I introduced them first and made sure they were larger.

I have tried bosemani and giant danios with my jag before. My jag got a huge protein boost from both. They are supposed to be fast, but the jag knew how to catch them. If you want to try it, make sure your target/dither fish are greater than 1/2 the size of the jag. Otherwise they become expensive feeders.

I started out with 6 giant danios 2 weeks ago and am down to 4. Saw one in my jags mouth a week ago so i'm pretty sure he got the other one too. If I can't get my jag to eat NLS at least I can get him to eat fish that eat NLS.

The rainbow experiment didn't end so well. I got a huge rainbow, over 4 inches and fat. The jaguar seemed very interested in it at the begining, and followed it around the tank for a while. No attacks though. Surprisingly it was the gars that got the rainbow. I kept them well fed for 3 days, and the rainbow did fine with only some fins bitten. Then I had to go away for another 3 and when I got back home I found the rainbow dead floating on the surface. My gars couldn't eat it but bit it to death. I'm going for bala sharks now. Fingers crossed.
