What semi aggressive fish would fit in with these fish?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
As much as I like kribensis, my RTS hates them with a passion. I have one female left from a group and she spent every second hiding in her cave as every time she came out the shark would target her, often waiting by her cave. I moved her recently to a new tank and brought her a little male. She seems much happier and they both chase the guppy fry I have in there also.

Those leaf fish are very similar indeed but not related, right?
Really! My kribs used to kick the flakes out of my ruby shark when ever they got into a scrap. I heard rts are a little more aggressive but I had no idea they could pin down kribs. Leaf fish are cool but don't do a lot. Do you want to keep your adult guppies?

Ill add a pic of the shark shortly.

When the shark was young he would constantly fight with the kribs, and when he got bigger he just wouldnt leave them alone. He outgrew them fast. I dont really want to keep the guppies, they are not my kind of fish. I made a mistake of getting 3 females and 2 males a year or so ago and I have well over a hundred now with fry. I took 17 to the fish store for credit and it didnt make a dent in them :) I dont want them to get destroyed in a mass fish slaughter or anything, but if they get picked off over time, it wouldnt be so bad. I may find a home for them by then.

Ill check out those channa and port cichlids.

Could you post pics of your RTS? Those are one of my favorite fish and I've been trying to find an adult one for a while. Thanks!

He wouldnt sit still for more than second so pic of the shark is a bit blurry. Had him since a baby about 3-4 years at least. The pleco made the shot eating his fill of peas. Ill take some decent shots of my tanks and fish over the weekend and put them in my profile.

He is actually pure black (and red) dodgy photo work is all :) Doesnt get fat either with all that chasing around he does.

African butterfly fish! :D

African butterfly fish! :D

Lovely fish, thanks. That could work well if it stays at the surface most of the time. The shark never goes up there so it shouldn't bother it even with it long fins.

I like the looks of the port cichlids but I think anything I get must be the rts size at least or it will be picked on, barring the butterfly fish.

You should get a pacu!

no I'm kidding, butterfly fish are awesome and they are like mini arowana's with big fins. I have kept them before in a similar set up and i recommend them!

Butterfly fish would work well, as would the leopard bush fish. Channa bleheri is the only snakehead I would be tempted to try, otherwise one of the smaller Cichlids something like a firemouth or blue acara though mix up the decor before putting them in to upset the sharks territory.

Bleeheri would be a perfect snakehead to try, even a well fed ery ery wolf fish would probably leave ya shark alone.

Cheers all, I think im going to go for the butterfly fish or the leopard bush fish as they seem like the safest match and will keep the top half of the tank busy. Hopefully I can try a snakehead down the line when the tank is under control a little.

Now to find some prices! I havent looked online for the butterfly but I have only found one stockist in the UK of the bush fish so far. I could ask my lfs if they can source one, I guess.

Thanks all, you have opened my eyes to new fish I didnt even know existed.
