So I just set up my tank with live plants and tan gravel. I let it run over night and the following morning the water was a murky orange. My Ph is at a 7.2 and my nitrates are low. I have several barbs and shrimp in it as well. What should I do to get rid of the orange murk? I already did a partial water change before I put the fish in.

Have you got a picture, coz i've never heard of orange muck...

also what are the other parameters on the tank? And how long has the tank been setup?

I have some drift wood that I washed prior to placing it. And it is not so much muck but murk. The tank has been cycling for about a 4 days now prior to putting in the fish.

The first pic is with the cloud the second is the day after I set it up. It is a 20g long so 30.7x13.7x12.7.

So i take it the pic with the brownish water is the newer pic?

If that is the case, i'm going to bet its the wood leeching tannins which are harmless...

I would however watch parameters if your tank has been cycling for 4 days, unless you are using old filter media to kick start the cycle...

yeah the one with the fish is the newer one... Everying this new in the tank... If the wood is leeching tannis will it clear up in a few days? I ask because I bought a bunch of glass shrimp and at least 5 of them had clutches of eggs and I don't want to disturb where they may have laid them around the wood.

There is no definite answer for how long tannins may leech... It could be as little as a week or as long as a few months... Depends a lot on the size of wood, the amount of tank water to disperse it, etc...

mopani takes years to stop leeching.... mines been leeching going on 3yrs now. ive heard boiling it prior helps, but the tannins dont bother me... looks more natural imo. but its harmless, just not everyone likes the look. regular water changes will keep it at a min.
