What should be done with orange water?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Agree with the others that it's almost definitely wood tannins. Nothing to worry about there. You should *definitely* cycle your tank longer before putting fish in, though, at LEAST two weeks.

Well I boiled the drift wood and changed out the water and all is going back to normal. Even replanted my anacharis shoots. Now just waiting on my pond Lilly and onion bulbs to start peaking up through the substrate. Thank you all for your thoughts and insights.

How do you have Nitrates if the tank isnt cycled?

Are you just assuming? 4 days u still dont even have the 1st bb that converts amm-->nitri! Id do a w/c every 2-3 days at a 20-25% depending on ur amm levels!

And you "orange" color is coming from your tan gravel thats obviously un-washed! Thats the dust crap in ur water, carbon will clear it up along w/ w/c but be careful not to over do it as prolonging the growth of ur bb is no good!
