What should I breed next?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Also, I wouldnt recommend breeding arowana, zebra plecos, or discus. First of all, arrows will eat more than you will make $$ off of, (i keep tons of monster fish) zebra plecos are very touchy and also breeds super slow, and discus requires tons of water change on the frys for them to grow out right. I have bred zebra plecos and discus in the pass so you are getting good infos here...lol

There are some rarer bristlenose plecos available now a days. New colorations. Maybe you can start breeding project to spread more of these through out the hobby. Bn breed easy. You can also look into some of the rarer smaller harder to find cichlids out there. Many can be bought as small groups and raised so u get a pair:)

If you are going for a profit and you have a few extra tanks i suggest you try FlowerHorns or Green Terrors? Although they do require alot of tank space.

Galaxy Rasboras or Celestial Pearl Danios are cool (Danio margaritatus) and easy to breed. They don't require much space and sell quickly at my LFS for a decent price.

the galaxy rasboras are a small beautiful fish and go for a nice price but they dont lay alot of eggs a few one day a few the next etc.. the flowerhorns i noticed if you dont have a high quality fish people dont want them and if you do have a high quality fish people dont want to pay for them a 55 would work for a pair but in my opinion they are nast as all hell and is hard to get a pair that wont kill each othere. if i was going to breed another kind of fish id go with the red texas. not the ones that look like a texas and turns red but the ones that are red from the get go they are hard to find and when they come around at 2'' they sell for $200 pluss

Tetras sound like a good idea, or cories. Cories always sell. A nice group of angels? Put the pairs in 10 gallons once you have them figured out from like a group of phillipine blues.

There is always a market for CPDs.

Thanks for sharing! I am now on the look out for RD's
Hello MFK family. I am looking for a new species to work with. I have certain criteria but would welcome some opinions and experiences from you. I have experience breeding several types of N American crayfish, Mexican dwarf orange crays, dwarf shrimp, mouth brooding cichlids, live bearers etc. I am not afraid of a challenge but do not have time for 3x per day water changes. I would like the maximum tank size of 48x12in please.

The primary reason for this project is to EARN MONEY! I would like to breed something people want and are willing to pay for. I would probably select a less valuable species if I was just in love with it but I tend to like all aquatic animals so value is a factor.

This is brain storming, there are no bad ideas.

I say the market for clean quality feeders should be explored. be it snails, crays or fish. Everyone needs a nice supply of clean live food.
