well my fluval 404 pumped out about 55 gallons of water out of my 125 last night ...the tube that pumps water back up to tank fell out somehow and pumped water out until the intake came above the water line ..i have a cement foundation so i'm not worried about warpage of the floor but any tips on getting it aired out sooner ...i have a carpet cleaner that i have been using and i got most of the water up and now the carpet is damp everywhere ...should i open up all the doors and windows to my house ? i have two small fans blowing on the carpet ...do you guys think i should break down the aquarium and use the steam cleaner back there to ? ..any tips or ideas would help

if u got the water out it should dry in time.. , you may want to keep tring to suck out water with it tho to be sure

Howdy,

That sucks! Sorry to hear!

Depending on how much power your carpet cleaner has, you could also try a shop vacuum (wet/dry vacuum). Maybe Home Depot or Sears rent them. If it's too cold to vent continuously, you could also check these places to rent a de-humidifier.

Shop Vac.. DeHumidifier.. big Fans..

You will want to move everything and shampoo the whole deal when it dries.. or it will stink up your house.

try putting kitty liter on the carpet it will increase the surface area and dry more faster than you can just use a shop vac to get it up in about 2 days, or use blow dryer to heat up the carpet to made it vaparate more faster as some one else said you might want to shampo the carpet you might just do that because it will grow white mold

i lost about 10gal on the carpet one day while at work, and when i got home i just whipped out the ol shop vac and sucked at the carpet for about an hour and everything is ok now, no smells or any other problems. of cource i did shampoo also.. :)

well i have to go to work right now but i think i'll have a buddy come over tonight and i'll break down the tank and vac up the water under it and let sit with fans on it for awhile ...the only thing is where do i put my fish ? i have a 30 gallon but i think all those fish in a 30 gallon wouldn't work longer than a day .....hmmm

I had a similar event occur with my 55. I did not break it all the way down but drained it to about 3 inches of water and used furniture movers. They are plastic squares with a foam top and they will slide a good amount of weight. Home Depot or similar would have. It is risky to move that big a tank but it would save you from having to do a total breakdown.

kitty liter will make a mess, if you can pull up the carpet to air out the under pad, that would be best as the under pad can stay wet for up to a week and you can get mould and mildew and will smell bad, then spay a disinfectned on both the carpet and the pad,if you cant pull the carpet up then pull up a close corner and put a fan blowing under the carpet to dry the pad,60 gallon of water is a lot. if you dont you could get a smelly house. mould and mildew can make you very sick as well.
if you have no under pad and the carpet is glued down then just suck up as much as you can and put a fan on it, you may need to disinfect the carpet. ive seen much less water cause more problems than you might think.

way back when i lost 40 gal out of my saltwater reef all we did was use a carpet cleaner

clean it really well suck up all the water we could, this tank was up stairs on a wood floor the only damage we wound up with in the end was water marks on the down stairs celing
my farther inlaw almost killed me ..but all in all it was good, my tank was way to big to do a full breakdown

and that was saltwater man it suxd ...even the floor did not warp tho

got lucky
