what should i do .....50-60 gallons on my carpet

well i think i'll try to move it and keep vacuming up water until it's mostly soaked up and then lift the carpet up in one area and put a fan underneath it to dry to dry it quickly ... ....what sucks is this is a rental so i don't want the owner to know i have a 125gallon tank that leaked water out ...i guess i'll just shampoo and shampoo and hope for the best ..thanks guys
 
When you pull up the carpet spray the area with Odor Eaters carpet spray. It has an enzyme that destroys biological material and will prevent a musty smell. I am in the flooring industry and use this product all the time.
 
If you have underlay un der the carpet then you may have a bigger problem. I have had 2 floods in my house in the past and both time the restoration crew stated that once underlay gets wet from flooding it is pretty much garbage. You may have to rip it up and relay new underlay. Talk to a carpet store and see what they think.

Fastest way to dry it though is to pull up a corner and get a commercial blower under the carpet and run a dehumidifier. You can usually rent both from a rental shop. Having the fan under the carpet will make all the difference.

Do a area about 2mx2m really soak it with tepid water and scented cleaning fluid then move on to the next area, becarefull your carpet may shrink. While soaking the second area the fliud will get into the fibres of the floor covering. Then simply suck up the first area and so on. If you need to remove more moisture run a building drier for the next 24hrs. All avalible from hire centres.
 
Definitly use a dehumidifyer on full for a couple weeks if you arent planning on tearing up the carpet
 
well i pullled up the carpet and rented a blower from home depot ...stuck in under the carpet in a corner and it's doing this wave action across the whole carpet so i think this will allow it to dry very fast .. after it's dry i'm doing a major shampoo and then set up my tank again
 
One word. MOLD MOLD MOLD. Dont shampoo, it will just make it more damp. Empty tank, move tank, pull back carpet past the wet part. Tear up the padding, get an air compressor and air chuck and dry concrete, concrete holds moisture, use air chuck to help dry carpet, keep using fans and lean stand over and dry that completely, the bottom of the stand will have alot of water under it, go buy new padding after everything is dry, glue new padding "cut to fit area you tore up,back down. put carpet back down. You may also have to replace the carpet tack strips along the wall if they are saturated. By the way, any chance one of your fish could have knocked the filter out. My puffer got pissed once and broke the end of my spray bar on my XP3. Double secure it.
