well if you are still reading i also got the same day i got a free 55 gal with no tops a so called non working pump but it works but underrated for the 55g but this came with a stand and turtle top it was nice for free but im just debating what should i do i was going to a fresh water with this one with discus fish or something and plants maby add the turtle i dunno what do yall think

have a 10gal with gold fish and ghost shrimp and neon for now this was my first setup (note i have had this tank over the summer with no problems) :)

Welcome to MFK :) Congrats on the new 55 setup I only suggest doing as much research as possible. You can also type in 55 Salt setup with Corals in the search bar and see what other members have done. Also others will chime in with their experiences and thoughts.

You can start by saving up for a filter to put on the used 55 gallon tank and put your gold fish in there lol poor guys in a 10 gallon
And just do a lot of research and save up money bc I hear saltwater can get expensive
Good luck

Hate to break it to you but there really isn't a way to do corals cheap. Any marine setup is going to be expensive, if you're broke now even a fowlr tank would be a horrible rough start. Salt is expensive to startup even when you know what you're doing. I recognize the cheap lid on your new tank, do yourself a favor and return it now, it will leak in as little as three months. Use the money and get an ac110 for the 55 and move your goldfish over to the used 55.

Yeah, i once thought of doing a S/W tank till i added up all the costs... the startup for a coral tank doesnt seem cheap no matter which country you're in...

Lighting alone can be a pretty large expense it seems...
