Currently my 4 in grammode has been so harassed by my male dovii I have tried everything by putting in more hiding places, caves, etc. and I don't have another tank to put him in right now since my other one just cracked. I want to adopt him to a fish store but they won't take him because he's so beat up and is so timid they don't think he'll survive to be sold. What should I do? Also another concern I have is that my female dovii doesn't come out from her cave and rarely eats and the male barely even picks on her. Should I get some dithers and if so what type to make her more comfortable?

How big is your tank? Get a divider and separate the weaker fish.

size of tank is very important

I tried dithers and my 7" female dovii killed them all the first night. She is very shy and hides non stop as well.. I'd remove all the decoration but then she hides up at the top corner of the tank.. So far I have not figured out how to win.

my tank for right now is 150 gallons custom made...I know it's not big enough to house a breeding pair of dovii but the male is only 6 in and the female at 4 1/2...I can try to put dividers in but the male has found every way around to catch this grammode, he even knocked down a piece of rock that weighs 10 times him....as for dithers, i prob won't get them, if a grammode can't survive with dovii i don't think dithers can either

Time for a serious upgrade! Like, um, I don't know, DOUBLE the size you have now.

Either that, or relenquish the Dovii.

Thanks!

And don't listen to the people on here who tell you a 150 isn't big enough for your dovii.. In 3-4 years it might not be big enough but it's plenty big for quite a while. I guess people just like jumping on the "your tank is too small" bandwagon, makes them feel warm and special.
