Males are easily territorial. You try two males with plenty of hiding places. They're usually bigger than the females so they stand a better chance with bichirs unless you can find a large female at least 4-5 inches in length.

Ok thanks! How do I tell the sex and do they have to be a certain size before I can tell.

Males usually have many very noticeable bristles on their faces.
Females will usually have very few slender bristles.

Ok thanks James so it doesn't matter the age then like they do have to be older to have the noticeable bristles.

That depends on the species. Some have very small bristles even whan mature. Others, like the appropriately named medusa, have massive bristles that look like a swarm of worms coming off of their face.
