Yes get him and give him a larger tank. Even if he does not get any larger you will still enjoy him, not to mention you will be giving him a better life.

ok thanks a lot... I'm thinking of setting up some sort of pond for the summer now, and a stock tank thing for the winter in the house for him, but thats gonna be in the future of course lol.

The other bad thing, on ebay, my friend accidentally labeled it as an alligator gar, so i'm fearful that if i get outbid somebody looking to get an alligator gar will buy it and then get pissed that its actually a florida gar... lol

where do you live? the gar should be fine in the winter as long as the water don't freeze over, so an outdoor pond might be good!

Iowa, I'm afraid that it would get too cold for this type of gar, we have gars up here, i've even almost caught some, but can't remember the species right now... probably longnose or spotted?

nothing is too cold when come to water, as long as the water don't go frozen solid, the water temperature will be more than 32F! So the gar will do just fine over the winter in an outdoor pond if you can keep the pond from freezing over and have a big enough water surface for the gar to take air!
