The most common predator of young dovii in nature are birds.
Young dovii instinctually hide under logs, overhanging, and floating plants.
Taking out all cover will only traumatize it even further.
Floating plants, or logs, and caves will help, you may not see out 100% of the time, but that is the nature of the beast.
When I had dovii the were out all the time, but that's because there were plenty of places to hide if they became startled.

I kept them with other similar sized cichlids, but a 55 in not large enough to add more. I used a 150 gal as a grow out tank, and it quickly became way too small.
