My HBRTG usually only eats superworms and the occasional piece of market shrimp. He refuses pellets, bloodworms or anything else (spoiled brat). He's about 12" now so I guess he's addicted to live food. I could try starving him for a while to get him back onto shrimp but I'd hate doing it.
breeders in singapore and malaysia feed their aros Shrimp and sometimes pellets
but mostly shrimp
Why you ask - because its high in protein and it makes their body stocky and fat!
i feed my aros shelled shrimp stuffed with hikari aro pellets, so they gt the vitamins
besides, here is something ridiculously satisfying watching your 15 inch aro swallow a whole shriimp minus the head, including shell.
shell is good for them, high in carotene!! in nature this is what they eat.
i regulate my jardiniis food intake, but in one day, he will eat to 5 WHOLE prawn with the shell but no head
and his belly will swell like something chronic and next day - all over again!
I must be the rare lucky one. I got my silver at about the 5-6 inch range. Came from a tank filled with large african cichlids. I've moved him three times since getting him and each time was eating within hours of being in the tanks. His diet has included market shrimp, fish filets, pellets, crickets, earthworms, bloodworms and a 5 inch juruense cat. Never had an issue with eating.
Hey I have found that my silver loves raw shrimp peeled and no tail. I also found that crickets work real well also, but feed the crickets lots of carrots. I don't know if I would trust earthworms from a bait shop or not.
I find that pellets aren't as great.. my arow has finally develop a taste for dried shrimp tho.. i had to go back to the store to find out what the owner feed it after one month...
At first i started giving it live fish.. which it ate.. but feeders arent' the best fish for it and it will develop drop eye because its hunting on the bottom.. meaning it will always look down for food not up..
He's also develop a taste for small blood worms.. stuff i've been feeding my JDs and Benga Peacock..

don't forget to remove a sharp spike on the tail ... apparently some found it to their detriment. I remove that after seeing some sad threads about this. I used to feed my other fish (non aros) with whole prawn (head, pincers and tail spike) ... not to derail:
Your juvi aro is just picky. Indulge it a bit more then go for Hikari floating sticks. Mines took to them immediately even if LFS was feeding them small shimp and live feeders. Ironically, live food cost less here than hikari stuff ^^
