3 times a day? that's a bit much. With Africans you have to be very careful to avoid over feeding. Over feeding can lead to bloat which is a common problem with Africans. I feed NLS cichlid formula primarily with spirulina once in awhile. I feed my fish once a day or every other day.
When I was keeping tropheus I fed them small amounts, 3-4 times a day - which mimics their feeding habits in nature. In the wild tropheus are either eating, fighting, or breeding.
