didn't you post in another thread about wanting to educate people about fish?
a good teacher doesn't look at a student that has made a mistake, only to piont and laugh, that's not what teaching is about . It is teachers like that that have caused the downfall of the public education system.
she came here new to the hobby and wanting the friendly advice i told her she would find here. you do no service to this hobby whatsoever by running people off for asking for help.
as an added note the kenyii and gourami were a gift bought for her by someone else who didn't research them first, i have loaned her an extra tank to seperate them and the gourami is fine and has been for weeks, and to think you told her to euthanise it.
what friendly, educated advice that was?!?

while i can understand your point you need to see the first thread that i tried to help kissme with. you dont have all the facts.

Back to the original question, it is not easy to find fish of any size that go with guppies and most cichlids are at least fin nippers so unsuited to go with gouramis. Right now you are using a small tank which also means you should stick with smaller fish.
For color try small groups of some of the smaller tetras like cardinals, golds, lemons, and glowlights, You could pick two/three types of those and add up too a dozen each. You could then add about 5 hatchet fish of some type, one of the whiptail cats, and a couple coolies.

The only thing I would like to add is that a inch per gallon (as mentioned at the beginning of this thread) is not always the case. Many fish require MUCH more room than that!!! (Oscars for example....) I welcome you to the fishkeeping hobby and if you are looking to learn about fish you are at the right place. Some of us can be blunt because we truly do not want to see any fish mistreated. There are many myths out there that are not true (such as a fish will grow according to the tank, etc) and I think it is hard for some to remember what it was like starting out. You have to understand that we love fish and do not want them to be mistreated intentionally or not intentionally. Good luck to you and I hope you learn as much from this site as I have!!!!

Like puffer girl said, the 1" per gallon is a bad guideline, to make it closer to reality you need to remember that the inch in question is a CUBIC inch, that means that a 10" oscar needs around 50g but it also means about 8 guppies to the gallon. Even then it needs to bee adjusted for the habits and shape of the fish.

You also need to consider the amount odf decoration you plan on using as this can take up considerable space...

yeah i have a 55 that probably only has 40-45 gal of water because of all the decorations, it has both halves of a broken ship that goes from one end to the other, and some large rocks, and plants

kissme_419, do not tell people not to post just because they are giving you a good advice and you refuse to accept it.

Just to clarify the reason why i told him that ws he was rude to me on another ques. that i had posted about a kenyi and a dwarf gourami being in the same tank. So, I was just trying to be nice and stop it before it started.

Back to the original ques. there in a 10 gal. and it's a male guppy. Thank you for the answer i was really wanting something other then guppies or mollies. Now i know what i can put in there. But it won't happen any time soon. They'll probably be in a bigger tank by then.

Howdy,

a very nice addition to a 10 gal would be a cleaning crew of about 5 Corydoras pygmaeus and a few otocinclus or one Ancistrus dolichopterus (bushynose pleco). If your tank is not planted, you could even think about adding a few Cryptocoryne  They are low-maintenance and my all-time favorites

I'm not very good with latin names so if you could tell me what there common names are i think the cordoras are the sory cats???
