tommorow im going to get some more african chiclids for my 30 i already have an electric yellow what should i put with him just give me as many names as possible that are from lake malowe

thanks josh

I'd suggest a bigger tank before getting more african cichlids. Malawis grow very fast and a 30g is not suitable for a group of adults.

Depending on tank dimensions, you can probably add a few more yellow labs, but not much else. If you have a 36" tank footprint you might could add another small species. You could always take the yellow lab back and get Ps. Saulosi instead...the females will have the yellow lab color and the males a nice blue stripe. They stay small(ish), too.

Josh, I am please to tell you you can put around 15-20 fish into your tank without too much problem. I have a 3ft, approx 30gal, and have 30+ wild caughts in there, 9 or 10 different species of mbuna.
Give them plenty of rocks for caves and try and get all your fish about the same size. I would suggest Ps Saulosi, Melanochromis maingano, Cynotilapia lion's cove, Metriaclima callainos, Ps socolofi, Ps elongatus chailosi, Metriaclima lombardoi and Ps minutus. All these will go quite well with your Lab caeruleus. With the number of fish I have suggested you will find it will require a little more regular maintenance as Malawi's are renouned dirt makers. I do regular 20% changes each week and clean out filter sponges 2x per week as they get clogged within 2-3 days.
My avatar shows a 3ft tank I spoke about. Fish breed like crazy. Presently have 3 nets hanging with about 50-100 fry. Still have to count them to get the exact tally.

15-20 4-6" fish in a 30gl tank????
Scotty you do realize that these fish grow and don't all stay at 2"????
This is gross overstocking and long-term keeping would involve heavy filtration and frequent large volume waterchanges with eventual removing of problem fish, extra males, overl aggressive males or fish simply too large for such a small sized tank.
For 3ogl tanks I would recommend nothing but the smallest and least aggressive Malawians like some of the Cynotilapia afra or P. saulosi and even then in well thought out numbers and sex ratios.
For a 30gl tank with a Labidochromis caeruleus in it I would recommend maybe 3 or 4 more L. caerueleus and aiming for a ratio of 1 male to 3 or 4 females. A species tank of 6-8 afra or saulosi would also be managable.
tay abslutely away from fish that will become too large and aggressive for a 30gl tank like any Melanochromis sp., Metriaclima estherae, Metriaclima callainos, Metriaclima lombardoi or anything else that averages 6" or more.

How long do you have all those fish in that tank? You got some pretty aggressive species in there. Sooner or later the fish are going to die due to too much stress. Especially the lombardoi is a killer. I'd not even put him in a 135 gal.

Uh, yeah....I hate to say it but this is not great advice....M. callainos, Ps. socolofi, M. lombardoi and probably the elongatus get way too big for a tank this size, plus it is not recommended to have that many species in a tank that size. I would stick with 1 or 2 species with that footprint for greatest success.
