I was wondering what I should get in my 30ish gallon tank....I have a 37 community tank and was wondering what I should get for the new tank..I want something that I could maybe breed a bit in the future...Any suggestions are appreciated.

sounds like you want a breeding pair of nice fish that is also compatible with other community fish.

I'd suggest a breeding pair of angelfish, they are generally peaceful for the most part and won't eat anything that wont fit into their mouth.

If you don't want angelfish you can go for another type of centerpiece cichlid. a pair of firemouth cichlids will work as well but these are more aggressive and you wont be able to put many community fish in there unless they're also aggressive.

you may also opt for an aggressive tank with african cichlids. you can probably put 6 malawi cichlids in there,(2 kinds) such as electric yellow labs or yellow tail acei and they should breed for you as well, but you wont be able to put most other fish in they are also of similar aggression.

Cool...I heard angel fish were hard to keep?....And also, I was jsut going to keep one type of species...Was going to keep whatever I get out of the community tank

Keyhole Cichlids. Extremely cool, peaceful fish if you can keep a clean tank. Small water changes, small and often.

Angels are not that hard at all. I'd google around and get a pair of juvies from a local breeder though (good advice for any fish, but there are lots of angel breeders, and lots of sad diseased angels at pet shops).
Rams are a little "harder" but all "Harder" means is they have some special needs and they will die pretty quick if you don't keep up on your water changes. You could do two pairs of rams in a 30.
What about convicts? No one will want the babies, but they are awesome fish and parents?

I agree with what's been mentioned above, but I just wanted to add that if you wanted to breed stuff you should consider a spare tank just to house all the fry(baby fish). A 30g doesn't seem large enough for a breeding pair of adult angels and a few hundred babies :P

i will say almost any rainbowfish is beautiful and most definatley easy to breed, most times they breed anyways. i am working on a 125 planted bosemani rainbow tank.
