What should I put over open 1.5 inch drain pipes?

I have only been able to find 1 inch or smaller duro stand pipes with strainer. Any suggestions on what to put on open 1.5 inch drain pipes to prevent fish or other large pieces from getting sucked in?

Thanks in advance for the advice?

Could use eggcrate. small fish could still make it through though. Or a window screen material, but if its too small, it'll probably clog up pretty quickly

you can buy black egg crate, so it shouldnt stand out

I got one of these 1.5" low profile from Bulk Reef Supply for my emergency overflow.

My bulkheads are in the back of my tank so I had to use an elbow on mine.

The cap above fits 2" threaded PVC, I used a reducer to fit it on 1.5".
They are often available at PVC/ pipe industrial supply places.
I have also found 1.5" in this style

One caveat with these, you need to be constantly vigilant if there are plants in the tank, because they are easily clogged, and create n overflow to the floor situation.
I checked mine every day, and if I went on vacation, or even an overnight trip, I'd take them off.

This is similar to the above strainers, but may be a little less likely to get clogged. It would also require a threaded adapter since it is not slip.

Must be able to get strainers as spare parts from some of the bigger external filter retailers to fit 1inch
 
I found an inset strainer at Home Depot that unfortunately made the pipes make an obnoxious howeling sound that my wife vetoed, lol.

I appreciate the advice and input. Does the low profile strainer result in a worse sound than the pipe alone. New variable is wife happiness, lol.
