What size do you consider monster in a apuarium?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
size alone if it hit 24"+ and is carnivourse in some aspect. but their are alot of monsters imo that stay much smaller then that based on other aspects.

Yea i would have to say it varies depending on the species of fish. A pictus catfish thats 7 inches long wouldn't be considered a monster by most standards, but for the species it definitely is. On the other hand a TSN of the same size is still a baby. In general though for me i wouldn't consider a fish a true monster until it hits the 2 foot mark regardless of attitude or agression.

So, applying quoted guidelines, we can conclude:
Not consider koi "monster" even if 3 ft long, because koi not carnivorous predator enough! Yet, some puffers quite small but still monster because so odd and so aggressive and poison so deadly!

Depends on type of fish, no one would consider a 12" dovii, arowana, or RTC to be monster. Yet an 7-8" convict would consider to me monster.

Anything above a foot

Aquarium size depends on preception, IMO though entry level of Monster sized tank would be a 6x2x2 180g tank.

BIG doesn't necessarily mean Monster. There are some fish out there that dont get very big, like no more than 10-12", but if you get stung or bitten, you will see what the true meaning of "monster" is.
You don't want to mess with a stone fish or a lion fish. Not "monsters' in size, just attitude and pain. Some African cichlids I have owned were true terrors. They would chase and punk fish twice their size.

In my opinion. Size AND personality count in "a monster". Years ago i had a 5in pleco that would kill n e other fish we put in there. He was relentless in his assalts. He was little, but he was a little monster. But also. U could have a peaceful 8+ ft gator gar, he would DEFINATLY be considered a monster fish! But only in reguard to size. Bottomline... all depends on the persons perception and fish knowledge. Normal people who see my fish are astounded by my only 11in oscar!
Tank size... prob 180gal is a starter. A few sizes above ur average persons fishtank. Now. If u have to arrange ur furniture around ur tank... ur doin good!:D
