Why is this?!

I have 2 90 gallon (48x18x24) tanks that when actually converted are closer to 75 gallons of water... I would think a 'standard' size would actually hold the amount of water it is advertised to hold..

yes but then add the gravel, decorations, whatever else you want. all that stuff declines the tank size. right now i prolly have 15 to 20 lbs of gravel and quite a few decorations and my tank is a standerd 112 so i only have about maybe 100 gallon or 105 gallons with decorations and whatnot in there.
