Hi,

What size is your red devil? Also post how old they are too. I am just trying to see what sizes I get so I can get an idea on a true average size. Cause sometimes I get sick of people throwing out an enormous size and claiming they saw a cichlid that big. Everytime someone asked how big an oscar or red devil or GT gets, someone always says
"I've see one that was 18 inches!". But I know thats not always true. Im not denying some fish can get pretty big, but its not norm in my opinion.

I was looking at a website and reading a bunch of comments and most people were saying their red devils were somewhere between 20-30 cm. So I am just trying to get some averages. Thanks

I've had one that got to 15" and 2 more that were 14". I've had 10 or so more that were 13". most will get over 12".

Mine hit 9ish" before she suicided and took the rest of the tank inhabitants with her.

Biggest I've seen in person was a 11" female, I think that one was supposed to be almost 2 years old.

Thats a nice RD. Does it mess with your pleco?

Thanks, i like him a lot. No not really for right now, the pleco hides during the day. He is starting to get aggressive now and flares up at me when i come up to the tank. So he should be a lot of fun when he gets older.

Here are pics of 2 of my males

i had a female a while back that i bought at about 2" and got to around 9" after probably a year and a half to 2 years. much later i bought 2 others that turned out to both be males. one i got at about 2" and got to probably 10" in maybe a year to year and a half. the other was already 4" when I got it and he got to 10" in probably a year.

i now have A. xiloaensis, very closely related to red devil. i got them at 2" tops in march and now the 2 larger males are pushing 7".

also, all sizes i've stated are in standard length. a lot of people make their fish sound bigger by adding ever cm of the tail or fin trailers too. ;)
