What Size Lumber for Stand - 66" Span

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
ok. i think basslover is right. i'm totally overthinking this, as is my personality.

metal won't hold up here, too much saltwater nearby rusts everything, even galvanized.

the tank (actually 2 tanks, but that will be another thread) will be located in a traffic area and needs to be able to get bumped: by drunks, bikes, golf carts, etc., did i mention drunks.

the price difference between 2x6 and 2x8 is only a few bucks, so doubled 2x8's in fron, back and center. going the long way, that's why the 66" span.

thanks everybody for the advice.

I built a stand with an 8' span between legs. I used doubled up 2x10 for the front center and rear. Very over kill but the 90 and 75 on top don't cause any bowing over the 8'. I was building witht he option of putting an 8' tank on top.

thanx for the info danger chicken. we picked up the lumber yesterday. going with 4x6 posts at the corners and 2x10 for the spans. dropped the concrete block idea as it will cover the existing holes for overflows, which i want to use. also picked up tile for the bottom!
