What size makes it a monster tank

I think a monster tank is anything out of your immediate control. If it is too big for you personally it is a monster. My 500 gal planted tank is almost at that stage; just about unstoppable.

WRONG. you become asphyxiated because technically you it wouldnt fill your longs (drowning) but it blocks air from entering. wow college did one thing for me.

eh? really? College? My GF bowl filled could cover my nose and my mouth; about "lung" capacity:

adult lungs hold an average of 1.5 gallons +/- a bit ... that is far smaller than a goldfish bowl. Maybe you're thinking of a "Betta Bowl?"

with toddler's its a real danger. they can drown in a few inches of water..

I think once you break the 100g barrier that would be considered big by most people, but, you have to go truly big, like 500g+to be monster....100g to 250g is really just a matter of a few ft in dimension. You start talking 450g -500g you start talking serious $$$$$ to purchase and to keep( heat, filter, light,etc.)
