The magnetic drive is slipping.

Please tell me how something suspended in a magnetic field slips.

For those who don't know the difference between positive displacement pumps and magnetic drive pumps try stopping the flow on a PDP. Let me know how that works out for ya.

Who mentioned anything about positive displacement pumps????

You can stop or restrict the output onna mag driven pump, it will not know the difference, it thinks it is experiencing more head. Completely restrict it and it will still spin along on its merry way none the wiser.

And it will use less electricity, run cooler and last longer.

You can also divert excess flow back top the sump and accomplish the same results ...

Same "end" result but not the benifits of lower power consumption and etc..

and... get the benefits of extra oxygenation of the water collumn ... a place to put an inline heater ... a place to put a UV ... or just another way to balance the system. Its all good.

If this is needed then you bet.

i would go for 8-9x turnover. so a 2500gph pump will work.

dont under do your gph. i only got a pump for 4x turnover and i really regetted it. shoot for 8-10x

It stumps me why you would want to reduce the flow on a tank that size... If you do you will extremely regret it. Don't add a ball valve as that alone lowers the flow as well. If you want less flow, buy a smaller pump...
