My roommate and I are looking to start breeding some angels, probably the mid sized variety, and were wondering how big of a tank you need and how you go about raising the fry?

Also, just curious how big a tank one needs to breed discus? We both think they are amazing fish and if we could find a pair for under $400 and our 55 gal would do...

Right now we have a 55, 30, 27, 20, 15 and 2 x 10 gallon tanks that are empty and awaiting fish.

Your 55g is more than enough...Jack Wattley (if you're into discus...you know the name) uses 20 gal per pair...

I use 20H and 29H for my breeding pairs of discus. Here is one pair of three pairs of Turquoise Discus in a 20H guarding a new spawn.

You would be wiser to spend $400 on a group of discus and grow your own pairs. Most pairs being sold are flawed. They are usually too old and nearing the end of their breeding life or even more usually they are spawning pairs that regularly eat their spawns.

The other problem with buying pairs is that many do not resume spawning AND raising their spawns after they have been moved to new surroundings.

Your discus are amazing apist. Fish like those are what make us want to breed the species. We've yet to find any that pretty that are actually for sale yet though. Any reccomendations for obtaining some discus that would be worthy / capabale of breeding?
