WHAT SIZE TANK SHOULD WE GET!?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Get the 125. Like many people have said, the same length and width with a deeper tank really gives you no benefit and costs more. The cichlids will look great in the 125. If you want bigger, go with a 180, as it is 6 inches wider.

Regardless, instead of paying $611 or $794, go on your local craigslist (or semi-local, as its worth a drive) and get something the same size for 1/3rd the price...if not cheaper.

For the amount of money youre willing to spend, you could probably find an 8ft tank with sump, lights etc. I have in the past..and just did recently. There are deals on there everyday.

get a used tank i paid $200 for my 150 gallon with stand pump and heaters you can get deals out there never buy new

I love my 30" tall tank...I wish all my tanks were 30".

I'd go with the 150g, bigger is better no matter how you slice it.
x2!!!
But I'd say go 180G. :D
Or get the 125G & a 90G.:naughty:

Please turn off your cap locks if you're going to reply.:grinno:

dont buy either i paid $250 for my 180 g with sump and everything , just wait a week or to more trust me

Golden Rule: BIGGER IS BETTER lol

I must be the only one who loves the taller tanks. I've passed up several 125s for the 150s I have. I also have an AGA 210. The height may not do much in the way of making room for more fish, but I like the taller look.

Craigslist is great, but I don't find that many deals in my area. A lot of people want more for a tank than it's worth. I've bought a couple tanks for cheap but I've had to really clean them, reseal them, etc. My most recent tank was a 150 and I bought it brand new just to avoid the hassle of cleaning and resealing. A quick overnight fill-up to make sure it holds water and it's up and running the day after with fish.

I don't think your the only one. Personally, I always lean towards getting the largest tank I can afford. Period. But in the case of the op, the price difference between those two tanks is not worth getting the extra 25 gallons, irregardless of dimensions, imo.

That said, I wouldn't be spending what he is spending anyway... I'd be on craigslist in a heartbeat, saving $400 on this purchase, and maybe using some of that to stock it with some badass fish and an FX5! LOL... but I guess for those of us who buy used tanks on craigslist, SOMEBODY has to buy them new every once in awhile... right? :D

Let's just say this...I have a 7'L x 2'W x 2.5T tank. If it were to crack and I had to replace it. I would not replace with a shorter 24"/25" tall tank. I think the height makes does make a difference other than just making for a more beautiful show tank.

Those who say cichlids don't swim past 24" high don't know what they're talking about lol. True they stay more at the bottom and midlevel but that makes the tank look fantastic with the dithers schooling around in the upper portion. :)

On the other hand, for those unfortunate people with very short arms, I can see how a tall tank might be a problem. To each their own. :D
