WHAT SIZE TANK SHOULD WE GET!?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If you were in MI you could have my 120 gallon with a wood stand that needs a little bit of work(new door and paint or refinish) for $160. It's the same footprint just an inch or so less height.
I'd keep an eye out on craigslist for a lot better deal.

Buy a wetsuit! I'm short, I need a ladder for my 122. I'd still get a taller tank if it were in my range. The OP might not want to do CL because of the fear of buying a leaky tank and not knowing til they get home. If OP asks we can tell you what to look for when buying a used tank.

I guess he could ask to see if full of water and inspect it before he hauls it off.

Let's just say this...I have a 7'L x 2'W x 2.5T tank. If it were to crack and I had to replace it. I would not replace with a shorter 24"/25" tall tank. I think the height makes does make a difference other than just making for a more beautiful show tank.

Those who say cichlids don't swim past 24" high don't know what they're talking about lol. True they stay more at the bottom and midlevel but that makes the tank look fantastic with the dithers schooling around in the upper portion. :)

On the other hand, for those unfortunate people with very short arms, I can see how a tall tank might be a problem. To each their own. :D

Gotta agree with ya. Heck it cost me over $700 for the 30" as opposed to the 24". I had to debate long and hard if it would be worth it. Bit for me an aquarium is more then just the fish you can keep in it. Taller tank will provide better water quality, more options for stocking, more options for aquascaping, and provide an better viewing area.

Nothing worse then a bunch of big gorgeous fish in a flat squatty looking tank.

+1. When I buy tanks from craigslist, I simply asked that the tank is full of water when I arrive. I inspect it. see it leak free, they drain it, and purchase complete! :D

Yeah I guess that's a lot of money for what you get. I think they could find a better deal if they looked around.

I've got a FREE(!) Oceanic Systems 135g with stand if someone will come and pick it up. MFK'ers only.

Free you say? I will be in Dallas this weekend for work, PM sent!

i think if ur willing to spend that kind of money, why not just build your own. i have not built a tank yet but plan on trying it soon. its not going to be very big but am looking forward to doing it myself just how i want it....just my opinion

180 all the way with is way more important then height!!!!!!!!!!!!!
