Hey guys, i might have an extra 15 0r 20 Gal. laying around and wanted to know if there was snake that would live comfortably in that small of a terrarium and wouldn't need any special heating equipment because im a cheap boy im only 15 and my only income is from cutting lawns lmao. I was looking at boas but they look like they get a bit big and would probably need special equipment...I was actually interested in getting a type of boa. Any smaller types of them that would comfortably live in a 15 or 20 Gal. and wouldnt need any special heating/lighting thats ridiculously expensive?
P.S. I know abosolutely nothing about anything when it comes to snakes, well actually maybe a bit but still im a noob :(
any help is appreciated :D

A rubber Boa is your best bet since you said no extra heating.
They are great little boas just buy one that is eating pinkies.

I sent you site for rubber boa's as not sure if allowed to link sites here. Either way for your set up they are great snake's.

Male's stay smaller than female's.

Yeah. A sand Boa or a Rosy Boa is going to be your best bet. Most constrictors get too big for those size tanks. Kenyan sand boas are pretty awsome. You can get them in all sorts of crazy colors. Corn snakes would work, but they're really common and don't keep their color as well as sand boas do. I think you'd get alot more out of the sand Boa. Tiff knows what she's talkin' about.

No a 4 to 6 foot corn won't work its cruel it will live like an Oscar in a 30 gallon tank cramped and miserable .
A snake that loves to climb is active and again 4 to 6 feet won't "work" for a 20 gall .

Its cruel .

Louie if you're still a little butt hurt about our last little scrap you should seriously PM me about it. Not start another flame war please.

Anyways, if you would actually READ my post you would notice I said keeping a corn snake in a 20 would WORK. I never said it would be a wonderful idea. So yeah, you can keep a corn snake in a 20 it's entire life. Is it going to be a happy snake? No. That's why I recommended a Rosy or Sand Boa. So back off and stop trying to dissect my words and bring up another tank size argument. :)

Anyways! Like I said, Tiff, I've never kept a sand boa so I couldn't tell you anything first hand. All I know is they're not really like any other snake and they're hella easy to care for. You don't even need to give them water.

Every snake should have access to fresh water, never harms them :)

I reccomend a rosy boa or a nice sand boa? But I think you would need extra heating for one of those. Those are probably your best though..
Good luck & keep us updated!

I am not 'hurt" lol but your giving out wrong info. Why even say it will "work" .

It will be a cramped snake . That's not good advice. A 4 to 6 ft corn snake won't "work" in a 20 gal.

Jfitz no heat ,nothing special you can't beat a rubber boa 2 feet and room temp type snake . Not active at all but neat, hardy and never heard of them biting.

Yes all the info/sites I have read on them say to offer water . At min offer once a week .

thanks man sounds like the perfect choice:), now i just need to find out if my local pet store has one because i really don't like the idea of shipping animals...lol

Agreed sand boa is your best bet.

And I would personally love to see a pic of a fully 6' cornsnake, next to a tape measure. I've never seen one in person over 4.5' and never heard of one over 5'. I did see a couple of 6' ratsnakes before (a black and a yellow) so I suppose a 6' corn is theoretically possible...and yes, a 6' active colubrid snake in a 20G would be pretty cruel as colubrids are generally active snakes.

Don't accuse me of giving out wrong information. All information I give out is correct. 100% whether you'd like to believe it or not.

Rubber Boa's will work, but they're wild animals and are illegal to sell in petstores, so good luck trying to find one. You won't have much of it. If you're looking for something that's simple and easy to take care of, get a Rosy Boa. They're basically the same thing, but you can find them ANYWHERE. They're pretty cheap too.
