.................. Needless to say, I need to change water again and add salt to test..
I was disappointed to see the result.. The second batch remains white as snow, not even a dot of blue on any of them..

I really don't think it's anything to worry about. bio-media doesn't "go bad".
If they had been used in a diseased tank or exposed to toxic substances, that's different.

If you feel the need to test color reaction, add the blue salt to a bowl of water and put a couple rings in to soak.

but check out the website photos. it shows that the rings turn blue after BB growth. a unique thing, but "expected".

Well, that's after BB growth.. Mine changed within a few hours lol
I think I'll just let it be but am open to explanations..

the point is, those rings are shown by manufacturer to TURN BLUE.
anybody else can only guess. I can't understand why you'd ask other people to explain the reasons behind color changes which the manufacturer has published to be normal for their product.
Ask them.
