WHAT SPECIES IS THIS???

That fish was already near death when he "caught" it. If he actually hooked it, it was a snag. The Chinook salmon stops feeding when it leaves the ocean to spawn up in FW rivers/streams. Males develop the kype jaw deformation to spar with other males. They can't feed with or even close the deformed jaws. And, after spawning the breeding pair dies within 2 days to 2 weeks of spawning (from starvation and exhaustion).

Hey Phil,

You are a living fish library, is there anything about fish that you can't answer. Now....back to the topic...

If these are stocked in the lake, do some become landlocked, like the kokanee, which have been known to spawn, and live to spawn again? In fact, like the anadromous rainbow trouts, some die, and some don't die, neither to salmo salar the atlantic salmon, which is more like a bronw trouth.

I've always been very fond of this group of fish. Do you think that most die from the sheer exhaustion from swimming up river, and spawning, and starvation--->so if they are landlocked, and spawn lakeside, without migration, they might actually survive...

All the info I found only described the chinook salmon being stocked. And, I can't find any accounts of post spawning survival in adult fish.
It's possible there are atlantic salmon in the rivers and lakes, too. There wasn't much regulation of introduced species 40-60 years ago.

That would be the sp. Larry Dahlberg! LOL He's comming to visit us (Uncle Josh Bait Co.) by the end of the month. I'll ask him what sp. that is and where he caught it.

Oddball, if I was still in college, I'd be asking you for help with my homework :) You seem to know everything in life I've always wondered... get me with this one: Whats the meaning of life? :)
