What stock my two tanks with???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
7 tanks? Hahaha, thats not going to fly for now. I'm going with 55g and a 30g and down the road get a 150-250g for the big predatory fish.

you can get two tanks mmm..... if i were you i would get a 400 gallon and would be a south amarican tank sting rays and angels, neons stuff from south amarica.

then a 200 gallon to play with and see if you can get a few like 5 65 gallons so when you get new fish and its sick you don't lose every thing. no gravel or plants

Alright, I think I have a verdict, I'm going to get a 30g and a 55g, maybe a 20g(for FRY) wouldn't be used all the time. The 30g is for male and female chichlids, I'm thinking something like 8-10 chichlids, give or take. The 55g will have many schools of tropical fish, planted and driftwood.

Any tropics in particular?

Oh newbie, sounds like your hooked. My rule of thumb for active fish like cichlids is the adult length of the fish should only be half the width of the tank (give or take a little). Both tanks are only 12" in width. I would suggest if you can afford it or have the space, a 75g instead of the 55g. 75's are 18" front to back. Still really good for a community/schooling fish tank, but if you decide to change over to something like cichlids later then you will have more options.

Now you say you want female and male cichlids in the 30g. What kind are you thinking about? You are very limited in what you can put in there (out of the ~1300 species of cichlid). That size is good for like your pair of Con cichlid or if you are thinking Africans, you can do some shell dwellers, or maybe a small group of Labidochromis species.

If it were me and I had the space, I would get a 75 and 30.
In the 30, I would do my heavily planted community. Will take a lot less substrate for plants (more expensive than just gravel or sand) and will take a lot less light. A small school of cardinal tetras and a small group of cory cats and bn pleco and loaded with plants. Might be able to do a pair/trio of Apistos.
In the 75, I would get a pair of smaller CA/SA cichlids like some acara, salvini, something that stays under 10" with some pictus cats or smaller bichir. Or a slightly over-stocked African mbuna tank with a few syno cats. Filter it with like 2 Rena XP3's or an XP3 and a sump.

Hey guys I made a list up, tell me if you think it is good or way off as the number of fish:

30 Gallon- , 2 electric blue jack dempseys, 1 green terror, 1 pufferfish., 1 clown loach

55 Gallons- 10- Cardinal tetras, 8 neon green raspora, 4 blueberry tetras, 4 purple tetras, 6 Honeybee Platy, 6 blue mickey mouse platy, 5 green cobra guppies,2 angelfish, 1 Pleco, 6 harliquin rapspora, 8 Blue King Tetras

your 30 gallon tank will be a cage match, ebjd stress very easily and may not last long. green terrors get big, to big for that tank and puffer can be very nasty little buggers. iMO that tank is not big enough for any single of those fish for life, maybe cons or firemouths may be a better choice.

55g tank sounds great,I would rethink the 30g. I would probably do a African tang tank. Couple of calvus and some shellies.

Do you think 6 pleco is to many is a 30G? I am thinking of doing a pleco tank, I couldn't really afford to get the really expensive nice pleco's now, so I would start off with some simply ones, what are you guys thinking?
