What substrate do you find loaches appreciate?

would it be a bad idea to add a khulie or a skunk loach in a 35gall planted with flourite?

They like to dig, but I dont have enough experience to say. My Kobutai are rough on my java ferns when they scavenge for food, but the ferns are pretty tough. I wouldnt trust loaches with sensitive plants.

What other fish do you plan to keep? Skunk loaches should be buyers beware. See sticky threads for more information why.

I'd like to know the answer to this too.. I'll be getting fluorite or another similar plant substrate, and i have 3 kubotai in it.

You could always use the flourite as a base layer w/an inch or so of sand on top. I think the flourite has too many edges that could poss. damage a fin or barbel.
