I may be the minority here but for all the juvi pbass I have raised I just kept them in groups and the competition amongst themselves was enough for them to take pellets. Once they start feeding at the top of the water its pretty easy.

Start with crushed pellet and mix with bloodworms and slowly cut back the amount ofbloodworms and add more pellets as you see they are taking it to eventually its only pellets.

If you're trying to pellet train your cichla, you might want to take the route of something that will hit pellets hard. I would go with Jaguars, Dovii, Oscars, Arowanas. Think of it as a competition for food, if you throw in a few pellets and they're snatched by (lets say) a jaguar cichlid your cichla are going to have to hurry and get to the food in time before the jag does. So in theory, your fish will have to react faster, and will spend less time analyzing the pellets and more time eating them. And also the type of pellet is a large factor as well.

try putting your cichla with giant gourami. it works for me though. my gourami even teach my bass to eat pellets and also teaches my bass to be brave and not run away when I come close to the tank
