I know they are seasonal fish and, as such, can tolerate a wide range of temps for periods of time. But what is the usual temp in your LMB tank? Do you keep your bass in tropical temps with good success or are you cautious enough to keep the tank unheated and let nature control the thermostat? Does your bass act differently at certain temps than at others?

Mine is just a baby in the basement and his tank stays around 55ºF-60ºF. He's totally peppy and interactive.

They are going to act differently at different temperatures as there metabolism will change (it will decrease as water gets cooler and increase as water gets warmer). That being said the optimal temp for them would probably be around 70 + or - a few degrees but what it comes down to is how fast you want them to grow. The higher the temp the faster they will grow. Being that they are quite varied in the range they can be housed in a wide range of temps.

I have kept them in the past with ca/sa cichlids and the temp would be set at 78. Mine thrived at this temp. they acted more like a dog than a fish lol. super cool fish. Unfortunatly they get very big, i had to give them away.

I think your right kevin.

Fish that are kept warmer live shorter life spans than fish that are kept cooler...for example, if two largemouth are given identical conditions besides temperature, the one in warmer water will NOT live as long as one in cooler temps.
