I've always kept my temps 80-82°… always..
I was just wondering if in my large tank if I could run 76° ballpark maybe even 74? All the fish in my larger tank are 12+ inches so semi adult size. I've heard the lower temps don't affect larger pbass as much. Just wondering what all you guys keep your tanks at

I've had my big tanks down to 76 and all my big Pbass are fine. My babies get 88, my medium grow outs get 84.

Would love to hear what everyone does great question. :) I also run my growouts at 88 to 89 degrees and my 7 to 12 inch bass at 83 degrees my kel which is my largest bass I keep at 80 but maybe I will go a little lower to save on some electricity thanks bassguy for some good info its funny how simular people think, maybe some of the og's can chime in with fish size and what temp they run.

Agreed. I run a little cooler that you guys up until 7" they are at 86° up to 12" they are 80-82, 12+ I run at 79-80 but wouldn't mind dropping it down a few more degrees if I wouldn't run into issues. Less evaporation and less on the electric bill.

Bassguy, did you notice ANYTHING different with lower temps? Body color, less appetite, anything to be worried about?

when the temps were down in the higher 60s, my fish arent as active/no aggression/didnt show much color, now they are in the mind 70s ( 78 actually ) and they are ALOT more aggressive, ALOT more active, ALOT more color. so yup, temps do play somewhat of a role in cichlids.

Im pretty sure water temp plays a role in digestion and activeness. Just like ice fishing vs summer fishing.
My main goal would be to find the happy medium where the temp is lower but fish aren't dormant

So far I've been running 78-79 and haven't noticed any change in activity, but wanted opinions before I dropped temps any more

I dont feel its good for them lower than 80. They are more active at higher temps because they are more comfortable. They show better color in the 80s as well.

I keep my growouts at 86-88. I wont keep my big bass lower than 80.

I can see your point, but have you ever tried lower than 80 and actually noticed change in behavior?

Ya when i moved my big bass couldnt adjust to the different chemistry of our well water. I noticed once i started having issues keeping the tank in the 80s they really werent happy and stopped eating.
