What texas cichlid should i get?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
well the one fish store has a atexas cichlid for 7.99 so it may be a plan green texas. The other lfs has a texas for 20-25 any idea on which it could be

We cant tell by the price, without seeing the fish. But look at the two pics here. Cyanoguttatus has small spots, Carpintis has large spots. And of the carpintis varieties, Escondido is IMO the nicest. And will be dearer than either of the 'normal' species.

7.99 should be texas cichlid, cyano. (small pearl, always cheap)
$20+ would be green texas, carpintis. (bigger pearl)

I found that only paradise aquarium in NYC has escondido, but they are not super nice, $13-$14 each, they still have them.
If you want good quality, get from IRA from this forum, he has F1 for sale, F0 wildcaught are lot more expensive.

he is right here in the bronx and a nice guy PM him and he will make time for you to look. Better fish than the lfs and prices very reasonable. pm him, good luck.

Hey everyone,
im new to this site so i dont really know what im doing yet..
i bought 2 texas cichlids yesterday and im not sure if they are a pair or just 2 of the same sex.

one of them spends most of its time in the tunnel moving the gravel out of it but when its not it chases the other one around and scares it
its very territorial but the other one is friendly and calm..

is it possible to sex them from such a young age?
the terriorial one has a dark spot on its top fin and the other one doesnt

i will upload a pic of both of them soon :)

the one that is moving gravels and does chasing is the behavior of a male.

thanks :)
i thought it might have been male but i wasnt sure...
i know that theyre cyanoguttus coz my brother researched that for me..
im still unsure if the other one is male or female tho.
my brother said he thinks theyre just fighting for my attention whenever im near the tank.
when im not near them they happily swim around together.
