what the best tank set up for a jar?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
min. 150-200gal tank

substrate is fine....depending on what type of filtration you have going on, bare bottom might be easier to keep clean though....

most "show" quality jar's i have seen here in china are with a black background, really brings out the silver and red contrast.....

lighting is key for color too.....

but at 5" - you got a good 6mo. to a 1yr to house him in a 50gal, then 100gal, but once he is at 12" or so, bigger the tank, the better....

my .02

my jar is placed now in a 4'x1.5'x1.5' tank.. the filtration i am using is an overhead filtration.. with floss and ceramics in it..

if im gona take out the gravel, wud a jar be having DROP eye?

i would say a 180 be the minimum but a 300 gallon 8x2.5x2 would be ideal

gravel plants drift wood would be no problem

i will move this too the aro section as you will get more info there.

i would say 180 min tank size.
as for decor thats upto you as you will be looking at it but i use sand and bogwood leaving lots of swimming room, you could use gravel if you prefer.

my little jar (about the same size as yours) really seems to like LOTS of cover (driftwood, plastic plants, rocks, etc.). He's been a lot more active since I made the cover denser!

thats ryt, im planing to take out the gravel to have better water quality, since algae is so strong in my tank coz its placed outside were the sun hit it, buy my nxt prob. is the bare bottom having his own reflection, is there any other way to counter this?

I can't find the thread but someone actually put thier camera underwater and proved that the fish CANNOT see thier reflection on the bottom of the tank. Its only visible outside the tank.
