WHAT THE F@#%

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
it may have been the large water change and the chems i use the same stuff and it says it will make the o2 level real low for like the first 24hr that might have been the prob . either way we can take a guess but will never know for sure but it does blow sry for ur loss

dont use novaqua or amquil
i use premium carbon the ammonia neutralizing blend
by marineland
i change it every 30 day

wait.... ( i apologize ahead of time in case i misread anything ) so ... u added the novaqua before you do the major water change ? cuz that doesnt help eliminate the chlorine or chloromine or watever ... barbs r especially prone to those chemicals , they r always the first to suffer first.... and sadly, once u notice something is happening, its already too late.... and to fix the water immediately, u can overdose amquel ( except u have to make sure there is enough air since amquel does lower air level ) and add activated carbon immediately cuz that'll "suck" in stuff

i added it after the wc;)...i have four air stones in the tank and it gets pritty sturred up in there...now i have a fx5 in the mix so i don't have to change it as much...total filtration at 1400gph now...:D

idk about the o2 cause i don't have a test for it any more...tank seems ok now...i think that you can almost never know why an animal dies we can only guess and make theroys but the 100% answer we don't know...and thanx to you and everyone for you support and thoughts on this crazy *** event...

you still have to change your water more then every 30days right...you are refering to the carbon in your filtration right...as for the carbon in all my tanks i go with the correct pack for each diff filter and any extra i use the bulk premium stuff...

i change my water every week 50%
but the premium carbon the ammonia neutralizing blend takes out chloramine from the water so you dont need the drunk fish stuff

i see...i whent back to aquasafe with bioextract...that is what i have been useing for the longest with no issuses...i will be back to the 50% wc a week like you...now that the filtration is in order...

Sorry for your lost mate, those were some nice TBs

As noted by most of the folks 75% seems a little too much, what are your nitrate levels before each WC that you feel the need to change so much water?
Are you open to new ways to do water changes? eg aging water in a water drum, this way you will only need to put minimal amounts of chemicals in.
I keep aro's and dats and usually only change about 30% weekly and haven't had any issues. Changing too much water too often will only stress your fish out.

it was more my nitrite levels before when my tank crased...i continued to do the increased wc cause i was thinking my filters couldn't keep up and i was waiting for a fx5 to come in...i for some reason couldn't stop my normal feeding routine i would say after each feeding that i would not feed for a few days, but then my aro would go to the opening were i feed my fish and rub its face on the glass and i thought it would rub its barbels off so i fed them... as for the barrel of water i don't currently have much more space, but after i move i might do that...

ya.. i only do 20% every 2 week!! =( . i want to do 20% every week but im scared =(
