Hey guys. i always wanted to be a stingray keeper but my tank is too small. i have a 75 gal tank and thats all. yesterday, i went to this rare fish store where they sell exotic and hard to find fish. The fish that definitely caught my eye were some fresh water teacup sting rays for 70 bucks each. They were about 7 inches in diameters. i heard rumours that they are dwarfs (hence 'teacup"). I didn't know how small though. I asked if i could put one in a 75 gal tank for life. Hi actually said yes. i'm not sure if he's unknowledgeable or it's just me.
From what I heard, the smallest species of ray I know, the motoro ray grow to 3 feet. what a teacup ray?? a dwarf or stunted version?? are they rare and hard to keep?? Is 70 dollars a good deal?? can they live with some small bichirs and hopefully a fly river turtle??

thanks

They are just reticulated rays...whose natural habitat is in murky streams and rivers with sandy or muddy bottoms and submerged vegetation in the Amazon Basin/South America. Teacup is referring to the small juvenile rays which have a small disk size.

Oh, and I've looked on google and its recommended they are housed in a minimum tank size of 125g because they get 12"-14"...with that being said I think he would be crammed in that 75g if he had to be in there his whole life...

Yeh there's no way of any species of ray can u house for life in a 75 gallon....

u can find em for $50 at a more reasonable lfs. i know cost on those guys is like 20 or so. im not sure how big but i know they dont stay 5" lol. i would expect atleast 16-20". they are just born extra tiny but other then that expect same big adult size. i would say a 180 for life. or 125 for a good portion of its life
