Saw these last night at the LFS. They were cheap (under $10) so they can't be that rare, but they just look very strange, very ancient.I forgot what they were labelled as, but anyway, what are they? Anyone keep them?

I have kept them in full freshwater - they do NOT eat or bother other fish - non-aggressive, but they push each other around, without causing damage. They eat small bits of food. They do not get that big - about a foot.

I just bought one that was kept in freshwater, a lot of brackish fish are housed in the stores in freshwater. I suppose they could be kept in freshwater for life but I'm certain that would limit growth, color, and lifespan. Best to slowly acclimate them over.

Fish 018.JPG Not full grown, mine was over a foot. They can easily reach around 16" in home aquaria and are believed to grow to over 2 feet in nature. I would love to see their full potential.

They are very easy to keep and quite forgiving to water chemistry. They are not competitive and must be given their dinner. Other fish can quickly rob them of all meals and many starve. They will learn to eat most foods offered to them. I kept mine in freshwater and saw no ill effects, but long term health and growth are best in brackish
