What. The heck is around with my water?

Ya my bio load was reached again one day after a very thurough cleaning and new filter clean out and the water was so bad it killed my Oscar :( he was so beautiful too I can't believe it but anyways I took apart the filter again and I see a bunch of scales and what do you know my turtles are shedding and the one grew like .5" already omg they grow so quick it's annoying but the Oscar I'm assuming died because I couldn't see him this has happened before with the jds but they aren't bright white and btw my tank is extremely heavily decorated like when u drop in a new fish don't expect to see it for a good week or so because he will have a form of tunnels or something but I "reloaded" the filter cartridges with activated carbon and am hoping for the best I'm gonna try to pick up some hob cheapos for now until I buy my new tank

Try changing the water and vacuming weekly, youll notice the nitrates will stay lower but for ur stock in a 55 idk if anything will work. Carbon doesnt do much execpt make water more clear, and take meds out of water. More bio media perhaps
