Im sure the flyfishermen on this site could tell you all about them. They are an important food source (mostly for trout in streams) and fisherman love them. Usually when a trout rises for an insect it just barely pushes its nose out of the water, but when there are caddisflys, fish will jump clear out of the water to get at them!

Animal Planet had an episode of the MOST EXTREME which had the cadis fly larvae in it. They build a shell out of whatever they find laying around and stick it with a very fine silk, you will never find 2 cadis fly larvae that look the same. I think there is a lady who uses them to make jewelry as well. She gives them nothing but ornate items, and they mak bead type items she sells.
