That's an idea. Just put one between your pump and the fork to your ball valves. Those valves work horizontally too, just be sure that the flapper is oriented to be "up" when open.

Agree :)

Try putting both check valves at the same level relative to the water level in the tank and deeper, or use one valve prior to splitting the returns. You could be getting an occilating water hammer. The valves are closing at different rates relative to the pressure applied and the construction of the individual valves. I can go into detail but most people's eyes glaze over when I do that so I'll wait fro someone to actually ask.

thx, im starting to understand how this affects the check valves. although any more detail would most likely put me into a coma :D

Any updates? I'm curious to hear your solution.
Thanks

oh yeah sorry guys heres an update. over the weekend i removed the two check valves up on top and added a single check valve to the line coming out of the pump.

i still get the "water hammer" effect, but it only last for a few seconds and it eventually seats, stopping the water flow. so in all, id say i solved the problem! :)

Nice! Glad to hear everything worked out
