lokks like some sort of tumor but if it's opening up i wonder if it got infected and now the poison is leaching out! if so it will gradually clear up in good water conditions,how about contacting a fish vet for more info? it looks terrible i hope all goes well good luck

since getting back from my trip, most of the wound is now white. The bump on the outside is now almost gone, but has left a litle crater. Hopefully that will fill in with time.
The one in his mouth is still there but much smaller. Looks like he is on his way to recovery.
